Giants
lose to the Cowboys 44-20
"The
Giants lost, but this wasn't your usual football game. It started off well, when
the Giants defense stopped the Cowboys going for it on a 4th-and-2 play on the
opening drive. To add insult, Lorenzo Carter intercepted the pass Dak Prescott
threw towards Ezekiel Elliott. On the Giants drive, Saquon Barkley had two nice
runs, and Daniel Jones even scrambled for a first down, but the good times soon
ended. Jones missed on passes to John Ross and Kadarius Toney, and Graham Gano
came out to attempt a 54-yard field goal from the Cowboys 36-yard line. It missed,
and the Cowboys scored a field goal on their next drive. Next, Barkley was
hurt on the Giants 3-and-out. This time the Cowboys went for it again on a 4th-and-1,
and the defense couldn't stop them. They soon had a 2nd-and-goal at the 5-yard
line, and the Giants defense caught a break when Prescott fumbled a snap, and
linebacker Reggie Ragland recovered the ball. That victory was short lived, as
after the Giants again went 3-and-out, the Cowboys scored a touchdown on a four
play drive, with Prescott hitting CeeDee Lamb with a 49 yard pass. After a
strange trick play where Jones lateraled the ball to Toney, and he threw an incomplete
pass, Jones completed his own 38 yard deep pass to Toney. This drive ended with
Gano kicking a 51-yard field goal to give the Giants their first score. Things
were looking good when the Cowboys went 3-and-out, and the Giants tied the score
10-10 when Devontae Booker scored on a touchdown run. Unfortunately, we all saw
Jones take a helmet hit on the play before that, and it was obvious he wouldn't
be back. The defense let down, and the Cowboys scored a touchdown right before
the half. Mike Glennon was in for Jones, and the Giants scored with a field goal.
I was thinking maybe the Cowboys weren't prepared for Glennon and things would
work out, but they got smart fast. Their offense kept scoring, and though the
Giants added one more touchdown, they lost the game 44-20. Glennon didn't look
good with his last pass being intercepted and returned for a touchdown. All you
can hope for is that players somehow gets healthy for the next few games, as the
Giants don't have an easy schedule coming up."
"Almost
a year ago to the day, the Cowboys season was ruined when starting quarterback
Dak Prescott was carted off the field in a game with the Giants. Prescott was
out for the rest of the season. Today, the Giants saw three of their top starters
injured. Daniel Jones was the one going off on a cart this time in the second
quarter. Saquon Barkley was already out to an ankle injury, having carried the
ball just twice in this game. Kenny Golladay injured his knee, also in the first
quarter, and he tried to play through the injury, but didn't return after halftime After
Jones suffered a concussion on third down trying to run the ball in for a touchdown,
Devontae Booker ran it in on their next play, and that gave the Giants a 10-10
tie. The Giants defense did something they have been doing all season. They allowed
the opposition to score at near the end of the half. With 36 seconds left, Prescott
connected with Amari Cooper for a 24 yard touchdown, taking back the lead with
a 17-10 score. Jones replacement, Mike Glennon got his feet wet for one pass play,
with a 6-yard completion to running back Devontae Booker to end the half. At
the start of the second half, Glennon looked good completing all three passes,
but then he fumbled a snap on a third down, and the Giants had to settle for a
field goal. Things only got worse after that. The Cowboys scored another touchdown,
and the next time Glennon got the ball, he threw an interception. The Cowboys
kept scoring on every drive they had the ball, including an interception on Glennon
for a pick-six near the end of the game that ran up the score to a 44-20 win for
the Cowboys. Glennon ended up completing 16 of 25 passes for one touchdown, and
two interceptions. The Cowboys showed they are on a roll right now, and the
Giants are suffering with a big losing record, along with a host of injuries to
playmakers on the team. Even Kadarius Toney looked to be hurt on one third quarter
play after a 26 yard reception. Toney, the 20th overall pick in this year's draft
, ended up leading the team catching 10 of 13 for 189 yards. He later fell into
bad graces when he threw a punch, and was ejected late in the fourth quarter. The
Cowboys won this one 44-20, and their offensive unit look real good. The Giants
haven't been able to get their offense at full strength. The offensive line allowed
no sacks today or last game, and they have held up well despite injuries. The
receivers, Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton have hamstring issues. Kenny Golladay
and Kadarius Toney were banged up today, and of course they could use Jones and
Barkley available to play as well. Things are not looking good for the Giants
right now."
