Giants
lose to Tampa Bay 30-10 "During
the season the Giants had upset the New Orleans Saints for their first win. They
later beat Carolina, and hung tight with the Kansas City Chiefs. The Giants upset
the Raiders right after that, just before their bye week. Tonight, they were up
against Tampa Bay coming off two straight losses, and the Giants had an extra
week to focus on them, and what they had been doing in those upset wins. Tom
Brady hadn't been playing his best, so it wasn't great to see him start off the
game easily handling things. Nearly every play, running or passing, went for a
first down. Brady completed every pass including the one that ended this drive
with a touchdown. The game was only four minutes in and the Giants were losing
7-0. The Giants came back with a real long drive that ended with a field goal.
Then Brady picked up right where he left off. For the entire game so far, his
offense had faced only one third down, a 3rd-and-2, up until the end of the first
quarter. The Giants defense needed that short break, and after Brady completed
every pass in this game until he had hit ten straight, he finally had one incompletion
on a deep pass. Luckily, the Giants were able to hold Tampa Bay to a field
goal after they had a first down at their 10-yard line. Things weren't looking
good, with the Giants going 3-and-out right after that, but one play later they
intercepted Brady. Then Daniel Jones ran for 3 yards from the Bucs 5-yard line
before throwing a touchdown pass to Andrew Thomas. After the extra point, the
score was tied 10-10. The Bucs scored one more touchdown before the quarter ended,
but at least it was a close score, with the Giants getting the ball to start off
the second half. A few plays in, Jones completed a 28 yard pass to Kyle Rudolph.
I felt the Giants at this point were almost there. Unfortunately, 'almost there'
has been the the way things have been going along all this season. They were at
the Tampa Bay 34-yard line, and after three plays gained nine yards, facing a
4th-and-1. I wasn't happy that they were going for it instead of kicking a field
goal, and felt worse when Jones' pass was incomplete. Things continued to go
downhill from there. The Bucs scored a touchdown right after that, and before
the game was over, added two more field goals. Jones threw two interceptions during
that time, and it was a disappointing 30-10 loss for the Giants. I know my expectations
were high for the Giants to pull another upset, especially against Tampa Bay,
but this game was really disappointing."
"This
game did not play out in any way like the last one the Giants had before the bye.
In that game with the Raiders, they were all over Derek Carr in the first half,
limiting him to 103 passing yards, and 1 touchdown. Carr had completed only 12
of his 21 passes, and we're talking about a quarterback who was 31 of 34 in the
last game he had played. The Raiders scored just 3 points in the whole second
half of that game, and the Giants had a 23-16 win, with a big thanks to safety
Xavier McKinney, who came up with two interceptions, running one back into the
end zone for a score. The Giants offense was limited with injuries, and contributed
just 16 points, but they were headed into a bye week. On Monday, by the end
of the first half, Tampa Bay had controlled the ball almost 19 minutes compared
to the Giants 11. They had 11 passing first downs to the Giants 5, fight rushing
first downs to the Giants one. Still, they were leading by just one touchdown.
To even get there, Tom Brady had to run on a 3rd-and-10 to pick up a first down,
which later led to a field goal. You could sense that although Tampa Bay was leading
17-10, Brady did not like the way things were going. The second half started
with the Giants failing to convert on a 4th-and-1 at the Tampa Bay 25 yard line.
Brady got the ball and was determined to make things right. His longer passes
on this drive went for 17, 14, 14, and 18 yards, before finally hitting Mike Evans
with a 5 yard touchdown pass. Daniel Jones interception three plays later was
a real killer, soon resulting in a Bucs field goal. Jones threw one more interception
before the game was over, and once again, just one pass from Brady and his team
was in field goal range. That next one gave Tampa Bay a 30-10 lead which became
the final score. The Giants offense scored only one touchdown in this game,
thanks to cornerback Adoree Jackson's interception giving them the ball on the
Tampa Bay 5-yard line. The offensive line limits what running backs can do, and
the Giants ended up with just 66 yards rushing. They're also no help for Jones,
who was sacked twice, and threw for 1 touchdown, and 2 interceptions. Jones completed
60 percent of his passes, but for a 4.4 average yard per catch, which was his
lowest of the year. The defense came up with no sacks on Brady though they
did have that one interception. Whatever the Giants defensive gameplan was, it
was way off. They certainly got no help from their offensive unit, but being pushed
around at will was all on them. The Giants are on a short week now getting ready
to face off with the Philadelphia Eagles, who seem to be putting it all together."
