Giants
win over the Colts 45-33
"What
can I say? The Giants finally did it, and it was great to watch a game and enjoy
it from start to finish. The Giants finally came up with a win, and they did it
at MetLife Stadium. The Giants started off intercepting Joe Flacco on the Colt's
opening drive of the game. Even though the Colts scored a field goal the next
time they had the ball, the Giants responded big time. Drew Lock threw a short
pass to Malik Nabers, and he broke past tacklers and took it 31 yards for a touchdown.
It's hard for me to remember when the Giants last had a lead in the first quarter,
and that wasn't the end of it. Another touchdown and the Giants were up 14-3.
By the end of the half they scored another, and though the Colts put up some points
as well, the Giants had a 21-13 lead! I couldn't believe that the Giants started
off the second half scoring another touchdown. The Colts matched that right away,
and when they scored their next one, it was suddenly a 28-26 game with the Giants
leading by just two points. It got crazy after that, with each team scoring a
touchdown on each of the next three drives. That had the Giants up 42-33 with
just three minutes left to play, and the Giants defense put a stop to this, intercepting
Flacco on the Colts next drive. The Giants added a field goal, and a sack fumble
on Flacco on his next turn basically ended the game. I couldn't believe the Giants
scored 45 points, and it would be great to see them keep this up when they play
in Philadelphia for the last game of the season."
The
Giants showed that could play like a real football team. The offense came alive,
though the defense took a bit of a step back. You couldn't ask for more
from Drew Lock. The offensive line gave Lock some good protection, and he took
full advantage of it. By the end of the first half, he had completed 7 of 8 passes
for 153 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Giants had already put up 21 points, and they
had only scored that and more in three of their 15 games this season. Their
best output was a 29-20 win over the Seahawks. There was a 21-15 win against the
Browns, and a 27-22 loss to the Commanders. In the second half today, the Giants
added 24 more points to give them a 45-33 win over the Indianapolis Colts. Ihmir
Smith-Marsette ran back the second half opening kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown.
Lock kept at it, throwing one more touchdown, and he ran for another. Malik
Nabers caught seven of his eight targets for a career high 171 yards and two touchdowns.
Wan'Dale Robinson and Darius Slayton each had touchdown catches. The Giants didn't
do as well against the Colts with their rushing attack. Tyrone Tracy had 20 carries
for 59 yards, but you wouldn't want to subtract his 40 yard run on one of them
from the total. Devin Singletary carried the ball 5 times for 21 yards, and one
of those was for 13 yards. The defense came up with two sacks and had two interceptions
on Joe Flacco, one by cornerback Dru Phillips, and another by safety Dane Belton.
There was another turnover when Flacco was sacked by Kayvon Thibodeaux, and the
ball was recovered by Elijah Garcia. That was the good part. Giving up two touchdowns
and 320 passing yards to Flacco, and 126 rushing yards to running back Jonathan
Taylor was not good. In the last three games the Giants have given up 35, 34,
and today 33 points. Poor tackling and the penalties haven't helped. Cornerback
Deonte Banks had two defensive pass interference penalties, and on those two Colts
drives they came up with 10 points. It was encouraging to see Drew Lock playing
at his best today, and the Giants really needed that. The offensive line kept
him clean giving up no sacks, and there were no turnovers. The Giants broke a
10 game losing streak, and won their first home game of the season. There's only
one game left, and we'll see if the Giants can build off anything they learned
today."
