Giants
win over the Eagles 34-17

"The
Giants got off to a great start like they did in their last game, but this time
they kept it up. It hurt to see Saquon Barkley run the ball for 18 yards, and
then 13 on the Eagles first 2 plays of the game. A mistake maybe on their part,
as they didn't get far on the next three without him, and settled for a field
goal. They didn't have the lead for long though as Jaxson Dart showed what he
could do, coming up with two big plays on the Giants turn. The first was a
34 yard pass to Lil'Jordan Humphrey, and he ended the drive by scrambling for
a 20-yard touchdown! I wasn't looking forward to seeing Barkley with the ball
again, and I didn't have to. The Eagles didn't use him, and went 3-and-out after
Hurts took an 8-yard sack from Brian Burns. Dart showed off his arm again with
two more big plays on the next drive, a 36-yard completion to Wan'Dale Robinson,
and a second one that Robinson took 35-yards for a touchdown. The Giants were
up 13-3. Was I worried that this was too good to be true? Sure I was, and soon
felt right to think that way, when I saw Jalen Hurts throw some big passes to
A.J. Brown and Dallas Goedert that gave the Eagles a touchdown. It wasn't comforting
to see the Giants go 3-and-out, followed by another Eagles touchdown midway into
the second quarter. The Giants seemed to be letting things slip away as they had
on Sunday against the Saints. Surprise, there were no big plays this time as the
Giants kept at it for 15 plays, using up almost the rest of the time, until Cam
Skattebo ran the ball in 4 yards for a touchdown, and the Giants were up 20-17
at the end of the half. In the third quarter both teams went 3-and-out, before
the Giants scored again on another run by Skattebo. Everything was looking good
until Dart was sacked on the Giants next drive. I didn't like seeing him staying
down on the ground until the trainers came in and took him off the field to the
blue medical tent. Russell Wilson took over at quarterback, and after a short
run by Tyrone Tracy, and an incompletion, the drive was over. Brian Daboll
was busy checking in on Dart when the Eagles had the ball. We were in the fourth
quarter now and Dart came in for the next drive, but the Giants were off the field
quickly after one two yard run by Skattebo, and Dart threw two short passes incomplete.
From the way things looked, I wasn't sure Dart should have been out there this
soon, even with the fourth quarter break time. The Giants defense had been
handling the Eagles extremely well, but on their next drive, Hurts got his team
going. Assisted by a big defensive penalty by Paulson Adebo, they soon were at
the Giants 10-yard line. Hurts then threw a pass that was intercepted by Cor'Dale
Flott, and he took off with it. Flott ran it back 68 yards, and was tackled, by
of all people, Barkley. That interception and return run really killed the Eagles
efforts to make this a three point game. Dart was back on the field, and I
didn't like to see him running with the ball twice, before he threw a pass to
Jalin Hyatt. The Eagles were called for pass interference, and Skattebo ran it
in one yard for a touchdown. It was hard to believe the Giants were up 34-17 over
the Eagles at this point, but there were still almost ten minutes left. Hurts
soon connected with a 36 yard pass to Goedert, which gave him a first down at
the Giants 37 yard line. Hurts then threw a completion to his receiver, but it
was fumbled and recovered by Dru Phillips! Then the Giants took over and did
what they normally don't do well. They were able to run the remaining seven minutes
or so off the clock, and the game was over. This was only their second win in
six games, but it felt great! The way they played against the Eagles made you
feel that they had turned the corner. Now I'll anxiously be looking forward to
their next game against the Denver Broncos, hoping for more."
"The
Giants figured it out. You put points up on the board, the defense does its job,
and you get a win. Both teams were coming off losses with not much time to regroup
and prepare for a Thursday night game. The Giants had to make their way back from
New Orleans, and the Eagles played at home against the Denver Broncos. The Eagles
started off the game with an opening drive field goal, but the Giants came right
back with Jaxson Dart scrambling 20 yards for the second rushing touchdown of
his career. The Eagles later took the lead back, but not for long, as the Giants
just about closed out the second quarter with a long 15 play drive. It ended with
a Cam Skattebo four yard touchdown run, giving the Giants a 20-17 lead. At
the half Skattebo and Dart had combined for 69 rushing yards, and each had scored
a touchdown. Dart had completed 10 of his 13 passes for 127 yards, including a
touchdown pass to Wan'Dale Robinson. Jude McAtamney missed on the point after
attempt right after that. Dart had taken one sack, and the Giants defense came
up with two on Jalen Hurts, one by Brian Burns, and another by Darius Muasau.
Even though Saquon Barkley got off to a good start with 2 runs for 29 yards, he
was held to 27 on his next 6 carries. Barkley became a non factor in the game
after that, carrying the ball only four more times and gaining just 2 yards. Hurts
threw to Barkley a total of only 3 times, and he caught 2 for 9 yards. Hurts also
couldn't run on the Giants defense the way they were playing. He had one 9 yard
run, and the total of all of Hurts 7 carries resulted in 13 yards and 1 pushed-in
touchdown. The Eagles didn't score a single point in the whole second half, and
the Giants added two more touchdowns. At
one point Dart left the game after taking a sack, but returned soon after he cleared
a concussion check. Dart ended up completing 17 of his 25 passes for 195 yards
and 1 touchdown, and he ran with the ball 13 times for 58 yards and 1 touchdown.
Cam Skattebo rushed 19 times for 98
yards and three touchdowns. He also caught two passes for another 12 yards. Malik
Nabers and Darius Slayton were not available, and Wan'Dale Robinson stepped up.
Dart threw to him 7 times, and he pulled in 6 for 84 yards, including his big
catch-and-run 35-yard touchdown. Lil'Jordan Humphrey, recently off the practice
squad, caught 4 passes for 55 yards. The defense kept the pressure on Hurts
all game, sacking him 3 times, and cornerback Cordale Flott just about sealed
the game with his fourth quarter interception and 68-yard return when the Eagles
were threatening. That was Hurts first interception on the year, and the Giants
scored a touchdown three plays later. Coming off a Thursday night game, the Giants
will have a few extra days to prepare for their next game. They can even watch
the Broncos first hand, playing against the Jets on Sunday, before they head out
to Denver."
