Giants
lose to the 49ers 34-24

"The
Giants started off this game with an opening drive touchdown. Was I impressed?
They even said it was the first time San Francisco had allowed a touchdown, by
any opponent on their opening drive. Well that sounded real good as to where this
game might be headed, but been there and done that before. If you're a Giants
fan, it's hard to be fooled at this point in the season as to where things actually
end up. As if to prove my point, the 49ers came right back with their own opening
drive touchdown to tie the game at 7-7. Then they went on to add another touchdown
and a field goal. Meanwhile the Giants were off the field fast on all their
turns. There was a glimmer of hope near the end of the half. With less than a
minute left Brian Burns got to quarterback Mac Jones, and when the ball flew in
the air, Abdul Carter grabbed it. The Giants had the ball at the San Francisco
27 yard line. There were only 33 seconds left, but having all their timeouts,
Jaxson Dart's crew had a chance to maybe score a touchdown from this spot. Three
plays later, they were still at that same spot, the 27-yard line. Graham Gano
came in to kick a field goal and he missed. This game was slip sliding away.
As the song says, 'You know the nearer your destination (another loss), the more
you're slip sliding away'. San Francisco started off the second half with a field
goal, and that gave them a 20-7 lead. The Giants showed some life right after
that. About midway through the third quarter, they had a first down at the Niners
9-yard line. They gained 6 yards, before Gano came in to kick a 22 yard field
goal. San Francisco scored first in the fourth quarter, and the Giants defense
looked terrible. Jones started off with a 13-yard pass to one of his receivers,
and then there were 8 straight running plays from Christian McCaffrey and Brian
Robinson, that got them the next 63 yards they needed for a touchdown. The Giants
offense wasn't quitting. Dart got off a big 24-yard pass to Darius Slayton, Devin
Singletary had a nice 14-yard run, and Dart finished things off with a 6-yard
touchdown run. With the score now at 27-17, the Giants needed the other units
to step up, but they didn't. The Niners were able to return the kickoff 41
yards. The next big blow was a 2-yard pass to McCaffrey that he took and ran with
for 37 more. McCaffrey soon scored on a 3-yard touchdown run. With the score 34-17,
the fans started slip sliding away again. Those who stayed got to see Dart throw
a long 24-yard touchdown pass to Gunner Olszewski, who usually returns kicks.
After a failed onside kick, the Niners ran the clock, to finish with a 34-24 win.
It's hard to see the Giants lose a game with the defense giving up so many points."

"The
Giants have to learn how to make use of the talent they have on hand. They failed
with Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley, not able to get the best those players had
to offer. Currently on the defensive side, they have Brian Burns, Abdul Carter,
Kayvon Thibodeaux and Dexter Lawrence. Despite any pass rush, by the end of the
first half in this game, backup quarterback Mac Jones, was able to complete all
14 of his passes to six different players, for 143 yards and 2 touchdowns. They
did hit Jones for 2 sacks, and had a fumble recovery, but the Giants were losing
17-7. They trailed by at least 10 points for the rest of the game, as no matter
what their offense put up, San Francisco's offense matched it or did better. There
were no more sacks on Jones, but after he missed on 5 of his first 8 passes in
the third quarter, San Francisco switched the balance more over to their ground
attack. That worked out well for them, as they added 24 more carries for 98 yards
and two touchdowns by the end of the half. When the defense did do their job,
as they did late in the second quarter forcing a turnover, their counterparts
didn't do theirs. The offense was set up at the San Francisco 27-yard line, and
Tyrone Tracy ran the ball for no gain, and then couldn't connect on a short pass.
Dart's throw to Theo Johnson was dropped, and Graham Gano's kick was wide left.
Johnson had that one promising 15-yard touchdown in the first quarter, but finished
the day catching 3 of 6 for 27 yards. Wan'Dale Robinson was Dart's top target,
and he pulled in 9 of 11 for 46 yards, but had one costly third down drop. Darius
Slayton caught 5 of 7 for 62 yards, but couldn't hold onto a touchdown pass he
caught when the defender shoved at it. Gunner Olszewski was targeted only once,
and caught Dart's other touchdown pass. Cam Skattebo's not in the game anymore,
and it was Devin Singletary who had the most carries, 8 for 43 yards. Tracy had
one long 11 yard run, but his other 4 amounted to only 7 yards. Dart was actually
the leading rusher, taking off with the ball 8 times for 56 yards and 1 touchdown.
The Giants are going to have to figure how to get their act together, and get
the most of the players they have available. That falls on the coaches, and the
players will have to execute better than what we've been seeing. Next up, the
Giants travel to Chicago to take on the Bears."
