Giants
lose to the Patriots 33-15
"I
complain when the Giants get off to a nice lead and lose the game. Well tonight
was much worse. The Giants didn't look like they belonged on the same field as
the Patriots. The Patriots scored a field goal on the opening drive. The Giants
came up with just one first down before Jaxson Dart was sacked, and when they
punted, it was returned 94 yards for a Patriots touchdown. On their next turn,
Dart was running for extra yardage, and took a big hit before getting out of bounds.
Theo Johnson drew an unnecessary-roughness penalty after some pushing and shoving
ensued, and with that taking away Dart's yardage, the Giants were three-and-out
The Patriots added another touchdown, and at the end of the first quarter, the
Giants were down 17-0. Things didn't get much better in the second quarter,
and with the Giants giving up a total of three touchdowns and three field goals,
the Patriots had a 30-7 lead at the halftime break. They scored on almost every
drive, and also had that punt return touchdown. You don't want to hear about the
special teams fumble that led to one of those scores. The only bright spot was
Dart's 30-yard touchdown pass to Darius Slayton, for the Giants lone touchdown. Scoring
slowed down after that, and it wasn't until the start of the fourth quarter when
the Giants gave us a little something to take the edge off a game you knew they
would lose. Devin Singletary had a 22-yard
run for a touchdown. Dart then hit Slayton with a pass for a 2-point conversion,
and the score was now 30-15. The Giants had two possessions after that, which
resulted in 12 plays for 37 yards, while the Patriots added yet another field
goal. It secured a 33-15 win over the Giants. All in all, it was great to see
Dart back on the field, despite all his aggressive misgivings, trying to get the
most out of every play, but it was a
very disappointing game to watch after seeing how the Giants played last week
against Detroit."
"The
Giants started their bye week a little too early. At least that's how it seemed
by the end of the first half with them trailing the Patriots 30-7. Even with Jaxson
Dart back on field, and thought to be the big spark that drives the offense, they
seemed to be sleep walking with their efforts around him. The first half numbers
showed that both teams had 6 drives, and the Giants had half the amount of yards
per play (New England 8.4 - Giants 4.2), half the completions (Drake Maye 16 of
20 - Dart 8 of 11), less than half the total yards (269 - 104), twice the penalties
(4 - 2), and they had committed one turnover. Things improved over the course
of the second half, but nowhere near enough for the Giants to overcome their 23
point deficit. In their last 7 games the Giants have scored 20 or more points,
but even fell short of that mark tonight. The defense wasn't able to take advantage
of the Patriots having to sub in two starting offensive linemen. Kayvon Thibodeaux
was out for the third straight game with a shoulder injury. Abdul Carter didn't
play in the whole first quarter, because of a 'coaching decision'. By the time
he hit the field, the Patriots had a 17-0 lead. Carter had one sack on Maye in
the second quarter. Zaire Barnes and Dane Belton each added one in the second
half. The Patriots punted only two times in this game. Every other time they
got their hands on the ball they scored, except for missing on a field goal, and
taking a knee at the end of the game. Dart took some hard hits during the
game, and running back Tyrone Tracy took one in the fourth quarter, which resulted
in him being carted off to the locker room. Kick returner Gunner Olszewski suffered
a concussion on a helmet to helmet hit. The Giants have a bye week to figure things
out before they next host the Washington Commanders."
